I am a traveler who happened to have a blog. Actually, it’s more like this: I happened to be blogging for several years and have decided to travel. I made a travel blog to help other travelers researching for their trips, and to hopefully encourage non-travelers to go out and wander.
The grand tourist vs. traveler debate never fails to leave me confused: when I travel to any place, I am automatically a tourist in that place. I don’t do packaged tours, so I guess that makes me a traveler, but I don’t always make an effort to connect with the locals, so that marks me as a tourist. What am I really?
When I started this blog, I called myself a “backpacker wannabe.” Back then, I didn’t know whether I can be classified as a backpacker. Sure, I travel with a backpack, but I don’t always go for the cheapest options. I don’t mind paying more for comfort and I sure don’t leave my gadgets at home. Flashpacker, is a relatively new term that can describe my travel style, but I’m still mindful enough of my budget to belong to that category.
So what am I really? A traveler or a tourist? A backpacker or a flashpacker? All I know is I love to travel, and that’s what I’m going to do instead of sitting here, wondering what label would fit me.
Note: This is a profile I had to write for something I’m working on.
